Soda Can Triptych
Drawing from observation is one of the best ways to learn how to draw realistically. For our first project, we will be doing an observational triptych (three stages) of an object in transition - a soda can being crushed. With the use of VALUE (shading) to show the lights and darks of the object in front of us, we can make it look as real as it does in life. The most important thing to remember when drawing with pencil is that there is a HUGE range of value, not just black and white. Complete your value scale worksheets in class first, and then use the time allotted to work on your Soda Can Triptych.
Soda Can Triptych Criteria
- Accurate observation - pay attention to detail and proportions
- WIDE range of values - brightest whites all the way to your deepest black
- Composition - do not draw too small!
